LetÂ’s just call this my half-year anniversary box. ;)
ICO boxes are indeed a challenge, with the number of resources being close to zero. So, I decided to make it a CollectorÂ’s Edition. DonÂ’t get me wrong, this was not a cop-out, but was rather a decision that impacted all of my designing decisions and made this box truly unique.
I used many textures and blending techniques to create an archaic-feeling atmosphere. The simplistic, yet effective hand-in-hand symbol was placed in the center of light to show what the main focus of the game is: the characters.
Most of my design choices were made for a reason, so I wonÂ’t completely dissect the boxÂ… just take a look for yourself and tell me what you think. ;)
(As far as credit goes, LK made the beautiful temp and wrote the back synopsis.)
You my friend, fucking RULE at CE boxes. I'd actually scrap the back Rating info and such, because you don't have it on the front and it adds to the CE feel. One thing though, is it me, or does Yorda look a tad squished on the front? And I think a different font other than the LOTR font would have worked better for the "Together" part, but past all that, this is fabulous. Beautiful blending, fantastic composition....IT'S A WINNER!
#11- Actually, it's right at the top. It's just set to a blending mode... I'm pretty sure it's Overlay. I may edit the logo so it stands out, but I personally think it adds to the atmosphere. Rather than cutting off the light, the subtitle lets it through.
#14- Thanks for pointing out those things. You should be seeing an update sometime soon. ;)
Once again, thanks everyone!
I'm surprised, yet happy that no one has said, "There's no ESRB or dev logo on the front, nub."
XD
Absolutely beautiful. To begin...the front is pretty much perfect- not just on a technical level or how well the focus is, but because of the strong feel that it evokes upon the viewer.
The back design is equally impressive, having certain symbols that portray the game's theme wonderfully. I especially like that small image of the flying birds and the staircase like arrangement of the paragraph text. The most interesting aspect, however, is the balance and how well you utilized the color brown including in the presentation. Awesome work, my friend. ;)
EDIT: If you do update, make sure you also fix the typo on the back text: "Together, they know THE will find..." :)
Well, I can happily present the final version of this box.
I've fixed most of the mistakes, and tweaked it a bit.
By the way, if anyone cares, there are some symbols.
On the back, there's one bird sillouette that's seperated from the rest. This represents Ico and Yorda's seperation from society. The ropes blended into the background represent "Torture" and the scene behind ICO (on the back) represents "Beauty". There may be more, but I forgot. :S
Also, here's a link to the 200 dpi version: (link)
You have to download it, though. :(
Like LK said, each of the games themes is conveyed through all the elements in the box. The typography and colors are excellent. All in all, awesome. :)
Looks fantastic... great use of texture and colours.
I would have liked some text saying what system the game is for and copyrights like in extremely small writing on the back at the very bottom so it's hardly readable. But overall - awesome!
That Box design is awesome! Now that they really are going to release a Ico collectors addition for the PS3 I hope so very freaking much that it looks like this!!!
But, it looks like it will be Ico and Shadow together in one box set for the USA release. Alright dude, do you think you come up with a box for both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus in one cover and make it look kind of like this?
Because, I would personally send hundreds of e-mail requests straight to Sony if you did!

Man, this is DA BOMB!
But I don't like the Collector's Tin subtitle being underneath the logo. I suggest putting it at the top of the box.

Minor Update:
I just upped the contrast of the box vs. canvas to really make the box pop, and I fixed some minor issues.
