My first 3D box, hurrah!

I remember the first ever Super Famicom game i ever saw in real life was Jurassic Park...and from what i can remember it was boring as hell, not like the other colorful ones i'd seen in many magazines. So, i decided to revisit it. Had to make the japanese text on the JP logo from scratch as there was only small pictures, went searching to the 'nets end for Dino skeletons and other assorted things. Screenshots were also hard to come by, pretty much, there is very little media for this game/movie so i had to choose carefully and try all avenues. I think i messed up the 3D temp a bit, one's on a slightly harder perspective than the other, but oh well, maybe one day i'll change it (that reflection took some pre-planning and thinking first)!

Anyway, hope you all like it, i went through many different designs and arrangements before i made my mind up. Its a pretty big file, but full view please.

Not bad, but I feel the cover is a bit redundant with the T-Rex skeleton hovering above the logo (Which uses the T-Rex skeleton) It's also a little filter/brush heavy for my tastes, but it gives off that jungle feel, which is good.

Why make it in Japanese, though? I could dig it if you were doing a JRPG or something, but with something like JP it just doesn't make much sense, and it alienates all of us, since we can't even read the title.

#7 yeah that bugged me too but it was late and i'd had enough. I'll try to do it today before i go to work but no promises!!

Reagarding the temp, read my first comment. One thing i hate seeing is when someone does an awesome Jap temp boxart and then spoils it (in my opinion) with English text on the back - sorry folks, but its not how they did it! Also, i understand The Slyders "it alienates all of us" line but really, if you don't reconigse that title, then your either A) about 10 years old, if that or B) living on Mars. Not being smart, but its a pretty reconigsable logo.

Either way, thanks for the feedback. I'll try to fix the perspective thing but have little time before work!

Holy crap man this is AWESOME!

I'm real big on odd ball projects, and I couldn't be happier seeing a design for the Super Famicon version of JP. It looks absolutely believable as well.

#10, I wasn't implying that ANYONE here wouldn't recognize it and needed the text. I'm saying that none of the English users (All but a few) have no idea what the text says, and presumably neither do you, which in my opinion is a very lazy, shitty way to make boxes.

If I were to make a box that just has "asdfipoahsd;gf as;dfh;ashdfo;asiofwefaskdfasdfbwgl" on the back, nobody would approve. But if you just diguise them in "OMG SUGOI JAPANESE LETTERS" and everybody drops to their knees for you.

I frown upon it pretty strongly.

#14 And how wrong you are.

The text on the back is from the blurb of the Jurassic Park japanese release movie, it IS about Jurassic Park, including the English reference to InGen and Dr Grant. Its called installing a Japanese character set into your Operating System and using a text-compliant scanner. And the text on the JP logo IS Jurassic Park in japanese. That text was built from a very thin version i found in an old Jap gaming mag (hence why i re-build it). And i doubt many people can read fluent Japanese here too, so in saying that, you should be posting this post to everyone who has done a Japanese box on the site because they are in the same position i am here.

I'm not one of these f**king lazy artists who just copies a whole heap of crap over and changes it to a Japanese font, that is directly Japanese text that my PC is reading.

I think your far to anal about the whole thing and from what i've seen, your anal about everything everyone does. If you wanna have a go at me about something to do with the box, bring up the bad perspetive of the temp. And for christs sake, relax guy...

#15, I think you're misinterpreting my intent. I am relaxed, and I wasn't attacking you. Also, you can say "fuck."

And I'm not anal, I'm just easily annoyed. And for Christ's sake, it's "You're."

That's third grade shit, man.

I know what you were saying, thats why i replied in that way. You annoyed me with the way you fobbed off the text that way, told me your opinion was that its a "lazy, shitty way to make boxes" and you "frown upon it pretty strongly".

Jap template, jap text, simple.

If i didn't, i'd be hearing about how i have english text on a jap temp. You're entitled to your opinion, just like everyone else, but you compared my efforts as "lazy and shitty". If that wasn't your intent, sorry, but thats the way it came across to me and i took offence.

EDIT: Actually, this is just going to go on and on so how about we agree to disagree? We both annoyed each other and we both should get over it.

#19, It was a misunderstanding. I was referring to people who don't know Japanese, not you personally, if you know Japanese. My statement doesn't apply to you, obviously.

Very nice. I agree that having 2 T-Rex's is a bit redundant but other than that its near perfect. I'm glad you went with the Japanese box design since I find the vertical boxes more attractive and this certainly beats the original US JP box hands down.
