This is an entry in the Midas Touch competition (Year two: link where we (the entrants) are assigned a below average quality box and are tasked to create an improved version. My opponent (link) and I were both assigned "Spider-Man 3." a less-than satisfactory Spidey film box. (link.
I just want to make it clear that I absolutely loathed getting started on the project. The original is completely uninspired (And uninspiring.) and it doesn't help that I absolutely detest the film version of Spider-Man. Even worse is that every image that exists of film Spidey has been used thousands of times for either the movie covers, or the promotional posters/wallpapers for it. It was nigh impossible to come up with something that didn't look like ass.
And in a preemptive attempt to defend myself, I didn't go with the original color scheme because the original color scheme is what made the box look so bad. That said, I DID try to put a little bit of subtle green in the background, though.
Yeah, I agee with you that the other was very uninspiring and hard to work with, but I guess we pulled through.
I guess I should fav because I prefer yours over mine and the effort shows. I like it.
Looks professional. At first the awkward positioning of the logo was an annoyance, but after seeing the original, and how you worked with it, I was happy to see you hadn't tampered with the original design that much.
#8 How is that weird?! You made the comment March last year so obviously you aren't gonna remember every box you have viewed now since then. And OBVIOUSLY you must of looked at the box otherwise you wouldn't of commented on it. It's almost impossible for anyone to comment on a box without looking at the box and it is very likely you wont remember a box you saw over a year ago. So really, what was the point of your useless comment? You didn't actually say anything about TheSlyder's box, you just faved it but im sure TheSlyder would also appreciate some feedback on the box. But no, instead you give some pointless comment saying you dont remember looking at the original when you so obviously did because you commented on it. Plus there is nothing distinctive about the original box so why would anyone remember looking at it? Congratulations.
Anyway back to TheSlyder's box. It's a really nice improvement from the poor original, especially when there is only so much you can do with Spiderman swinging forward. I like the fact you used a non-Spiderman related photograph of New York for the background. Very nice touch.
I can't imagine producing something better based off what you had to work with Slyder. Your design is sleek, effective, and grabs ones attention. Good job sir.
Dont really like the green background, doesnt suit the boxart. The logo should be plain and not have a black line going through it. Dont really like the outerglow on Spidey.
#15, Not really. I just dont like the color of the background he could change the color. Plus the logo. Thats the second movie spider-man when it should of been the third.
#16, The whole point of the competition is to retain the same basic design of a not-so-good box, but remake it to be, well, good. He's already changed the render of Spiderman, so if he changed the background and logo then he might as well just been making a completely different box. Look at TM's case for example. He lost to Ervo for almost the sole purpose that Ervo's resembled the original and his didn't.
#16, I actually agree wholeheartedly. The things you listed are what made the original box so bad in the first place. Unfortunately I had to retain them to a certain extent, so I made the green background as subtle as possible and really just tried to salvage it as much as possible.

Looks noobish. If the original is that bad, I wouldn't recreate it.

Weird thing is, I made a comment on the original, but I can't remember looking at that box...

If he didn't keep any of those things, then it would be nothing like the original.
