My entry into Round 2. Metroid. The front is all custom artwork (besides text). Credit, however, to Leegion for the template.
I really wanted to make a box that was not the standard NES boring front cover with pixel art,
so I opted to create my own art and make it 'Classic Series' (which actually existed).
As for the back, almost every NES game had the same layout on the back...so I felt I had few options in the layout of the back if I still wanted to make it look authentic.
This took a long time for me, and viewing in full would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm falling for that cartoonish, cute art style. It fits the NES-era well, and it'd be something I would've liked to see on the original Metroid's cover (rather than a simple pixel recreation of Samus in-game). Nice job.
Spectacular! At first glance I was iffy about the light-hearted cartoon style Samus was drawn in, but upon second thought, I realized how often video games would have art like that, and if you're solely going by gameplay, this very well could have been Metroid's art direction.
Great job, man. My only complaint (And it's not a personal complaint) is that the box references Metroid's success that didn't exist when the game first came out. "Classic series," as well as "The original: Metroid" both conflict with the goal of the theme.
I personally love it, though, especially the logo, which looks deliciously 80's/early 90's.
Thank you everyone! I really enjoy reading all of the comments :D! I will mention a few people in particular, however:
#3, Yes, there is a reference in there!
#10, I made it all myself. The Mother Brain was traced off of pixel art from the original, in which there was a lot of guesswork as to what belonged where. The Metroids were traced. I used another picture of someone else to trace Samus, but I had to add in a lot of adjustments because of Samus' gun arm...
#12, Thanks! Although I agree with you, I used the summary from an actual cover that said 'Classic Series' on it, and it actually referred to the original Metroid in that sense. But I do appreciate your concern.
More thanks all around!
In response to Pan (#16), the 'PSHUU' was an addition I made after seeing it on an actual NES box (different game), and it seemed to fit quite well, in my opinion. But thank you for your opinion nonetheless!

Great work! The more I see this Round's Cup boxes, the more afraid I am I won't be able to perform to this quickly rising standard.

My favourite box of the comp so far! Amazing work.

One of the best retro boxes I've seen, I love the style and layout of this.

Really good retro box, but I think the "pshhu" sound effect puts it just over the top with silly factor. That's just my opinion though.

I really like the Blue scheme, it's really nice eye candy overall

#27, It took about 3-4ish days of on/off work. Definitely one of my longer boxes.
