Check it out guys, tell me what you think! This is my box for Round 3 of the VGBA Cup. I did a lot of tracing this time around. I based my work upon the official art from the game. Ryu and Nina are from the PSP version, which was sadly not brought to the US. The dragon on the back is from the original PS1 release. I'm quite proud of my product and the halftoning work I did to make a couple more colors, and I hope you guys like it.
You've done exceptionally well considering the circumstances. In fact, I'd say the limitations are one of this covers greater strengths. It's very stylish in it's own right, and little touches like the checkered patters and half-tone do more than give you some leeway in the colors presented.
As a box for the competition, it's solid and is very nicely done. As a design for the game however, I feel like you were held back by the limitations. That's how I felt about my own box for this round as well.
Good job this round though, you did great with only 5 colors to work with.
Wow, thought I undertand the limitations, that's an excellent use of the halftone, and these drawings are jaw-dropping! Honestly, the only thing I don't like are the texts on the back, they look lifeless somehow (Maybe it's the justified-like text or the big stroke.)
Great design, overall, and kudos for such awesome drawings!

I must applaud your choice of game.

#2, Thanks so much! I first learned the lesson of how powerful half tones can be thanks to GlowBlue's Tony Hawk: RIDE box: link
This box let me relive that comp with newer techniques that I've learned since then, so this was a lot of fun.

#6, Yeah, I feel exactly like that. I'm really happy with the outcome, but it would be drastically different if I didn't have the color limitation.
