This is my first cover and I wanted to display the game's main themes. On the front is the real star of the game, the city of Rapture. On the back is the Big Daddy/Little Sister relationship. Also, I love clean simple design, thus the minimalist logos and placement.
Good idea, but there is just so much missing here that this box can hardly have any impact. The front as well as the back are based on a great idea, it's just the execution that lacks a lot of finesse.
Thanks for the critiques! This, like my other covers I will be posting are very clean and simple because that is the type of design I resonate with. I think there are plenty of full and busy covers out there with lots of words and logos, especially the official ones. But I think a custom cover is an opportunity to do something more interesting and abstract that makes you think a little more about what's inside. Thanks again for the feedback!
The point aldimon was trying to make is there can still be minimalistic and clean, whilst not being this empty. If you had a slight gradient on the back between to really light shades of grey with a really low opacity texture to it, it would have added more on the execution part.
On your point of taking the opportunity to do something different - custom covers remove the boundaries of is able to be set on a box and thus let more creativity come from this. Thus it makes no sense setting boundaries like this on your first box.
Put more time / effort in your boxes I'd say, as both the back and from come from a good idea. But just pasting half a wallpaper for the front and some brushes / partial renders on the back won't cut it.
Just to make sure: this is NOT to burn your box nor you totally down; again the elements of this box come from really good ideas but just lack the execution of the idea and I hope you'll stick around to learn that part
