This is the first in my new project series focusing on the Sega Genesis platform. After my "Another World" box, I was inspired to continue building boxes for the Genesis. I'm going to try and do 5 boxes in this series. I would like to create the boxes in the order in which I actually played them when I was younger. Like many gamers, Sonic the Hedgehog was the first Genesis game that I played, and loved. I know there are a lot of Sonic fans on the site, so I hope this box does him justice.
I tried to give the box a bit of a retro feel while still creating a fresh look. The cover Sonic is obviously not from the original game art, but I liked it anyway. The background artwork is my own creation. The template took nearly as long to design as the box art. I emulated an actual Genesis game box as closely as I could. (The game description and captions on the back are taken directly from the real Sonic the Hedgehog box.)
Hope you like it, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
#10, Could you be a little more specific? "Better" how? Sharper? Larger? Different angles? Different style?
I tried to use the best images of Sonic that I could find that matched the size where I like to design. I don't accept character images smaller than 1200px on the shortest side simply because I build all of my boxes at actual size at 300dpi.
#9, Anyway, I don't have a problem with negative feedback as long as you give a good reason for it. But please, at least give me the courtesy of a two-sentance response. I can't offer much respect to your opinion if you can't explain yourself further than "I hate it."
#16, I realize that the Sonic render on the cover doesn't match the art from the era of the original release. I said that much in my first comment way up at the top. Sadly, I couldn't find a sonic image that was large enough, retro enough and NOT boring for the cover. I took some liberties and used a render that I thought looked cool and captured the spirit of the game, not necessarily one that reflected the look of the original box.
Still, your point is valid and I appreciate you taking the time to clarify your comments. You're right, I probably could have integrated the theme from the front and back better. I thought the checkerboard pattern linked the two together well, but I see what you mean.
I'll keep your suggestions in mind for my future projects.
# 17, the size and quality of the renders is just perfect. It's just that I...somehow don't like them. But awesome job anyways, I REALLY like it and wish I could make such awesome boxes.
This is good work sir. I like how you also like to make things from scratch! My only dislike with this box is the "Tengen-style" template and logo on the front (the beams that cross with the tengen logo at the crossing). Other than that, solid work!
preaty neat.

#11, stfu and gtfo.
#12, it doesn't fit the game. And I don't like how you have different styles for the front and back.
And I didn't say "I hate it".
