Well out of the 7 boxes you submitted today, this one I do believe is the best of the bunch. I understand that it's suppose to look sucky, but if you could update this at a high res, I do believe you'd be onto something.
#7 Try working at 300dpi, thats a graphic arts standard.
If your using paint, I believe all you can work with is 72dpi, so perhaps as a first you might want to check out GIMP which works a lot like Photoshop.
Your also going to want to work with big images. Finding a large image of the Super Mario Galaxy box should be cake, and many of the other items you've used for this can be found in large format through a google image search. Just select "Large Images" from the drop down menu near the search field.
