There were no boxes for this game yet on the site, so I thought I'd start it off: all images were rendered by me, which i then edited to make them look the way they do.
I like what you were going for...I would like for the background to be some sort of stage set or something similar. Also, your renders are blurry and blobby. If you use Photoshop, I would have cut it out more precise with the pen tool.
#5, Depends on the job. Since Pen tool is vector based, you can pull off more accurate cuts, plus the Pen tool has Bezier capability, making it easier to make curves. Plus you can save your pen paths for later use in vector. I do use polygonal lasso more often than not though because of the ease of use.
#6, What program do you use? If Photoshop, it's the the second down on the left side of the toolbar, it can just be a freeform selection tool, or if you change its mode by clicking and holding on it, you can switch to Polygonal mode. If you use GIMP, the Scissors select tool I believe is the equal to the polygonal lasoo.
