Happy New Years VGBA!
This is my special submission for the beyourtrueDESIGNS Winter Event.
A friend of mine wrote an alternative take on Alice in Wonderland, and was interested in making a graphic novel out of it. The story basically involved Alice taking her older sister Rose to Wonderland, were she is soon separated from Alice. Unfortunately like most artistic endeavors I get involved in, we never got it off the ground, but I did create a series of very loose sketches resembling the characters, and a rough draft of what the front cover of the graphic novel would be.
I actually came across these drawings about a month ago, and was re-inspired to do something with them, which is how this box design came about.
Most of the time spent on this was turning the rough sketch into the finished front image. The "card" illustration on the back was intended to be on the back cover of the graphic novel, so I completed that as well for the back of the box. The logos are custom obviously, and created from fonts and tablet work. The screenshots are from Eternal Sonata.
I'm glad I came across the original artwork, and it's quite pleasing to see something from an opportunity earlier in the year come to a finished product at the end. :) I'm pretty pleased how it turned out, and I hope you all enjoy it as well.

I like how your artwork captures the scope and ambition of Drew Stuzan's compositions.He happens to be one of my favourite artists and probably one of the few reasons I got into making boxarts - to capture the very feel/essence of a video game or movie before you even play/see it.
Excellent work as usual, I particularly like the card butterflies. I'd love to see what you could do in a few years time.

I designed a pop up art book for this game as well, but I couldn't properly work it into the presentation at the time. Perhaps in the near future.
#11 You flatter me sir! Drew Struzan is a big inspiration for me as far as illustrative compositions go, and I consider him to be one of the greatest artists alive. I love being able to put things together as you say, in such a way that someone could get a feel for the entire story just by looking at the image.
