Probably like most people on this site, I found the offical FF XIII box art to be horrible, so I decided to design my own. I looked for ideas from other FF XIII boxes here on the site, but the majority of them are simmilar to the official box. So instead of doing renders and logos on a background I challenged myself to make a box that looked like this. (Instead of like everyone elses.)

It took a few days of experimenting in Photoshop, but I pretty much got the watercolor look spot on. Everything besides the text, ESRB, and dev logos I heavily modified to get it to look like it was painted.

Unlike my other boxes, I did not resize the printable so everyone can see all of the details and hard work I put into this box. (Hopefully this makes HoF:D)

This is great, I really hope it doesn't go overlooked like your last box.

#2, I hope so. :)
#3, Yeah, I wanted it to get more attention than it did. I guess not to many people know about Cry On.

I really dislike the filter you used on the entire box, it just makes the characters look odd and unsharp.

#5, Isn't that what a watercolor/painting supposed to be? :/

And I used multiple filters, masks, and brushwork to each character render to get them to look like they do.

If there is a easy way to get CG renders to look like a painting, let me know...

#5, The feeling of the box didn't work for me at first, but I gotta admit it grew on me quick.

I really like the layout and the watercolor filter/effect works nicely.

Great job.

If this box goes ignored, I'll have lost hope in all of VGBA.

#8, I second this. This one of my favorite Final Fantasy XIII boxes on the site, it looks fantastic and way better than the official.

I like the back ... but not to fond of the front.
The back had more of the effect and feel you said you were going for,not just photoshop filters. The logo seems lost in it all as well. I do like the screenshots, though I had to find them, and the tag line in the back should stand out a bit more. To add more of the water color effect you might have to do more blending. The renders don't seem like they are painted on but plastered.

As well as it may look it just didnt seem like it fit with the vision of the watercolor paint.

Too many renders on the front and the fact that you put an obvious filter on top of everything kinda ruins it. I like the disc layout, though. LOL 360 can't handle it on one DVD.

#10, Yeah, I know what you mean. Right now they seem kina like they are oil painted rather than with watercolor. I'll have to play around with some blending techniques to get them more like watercolor.

#11, Even thought the front is a bit busy, at least it is better than 1 render, a logo, and a gradient background.

And as for the filter comments, I didn't simply apply filters over the whole box.
If I did, that would make the box a pain in the @$$ to edit and reposition the renders.

One thing I learned from making this box is that filers destroy ALL detail. Each render I used 3-4 different filters, tons of blending, and lots of brushwork to add details back.
I personally think they turned out looking great and not like chunks of playdoh.

Anyway, I'm grateful for all of the constructive criticism and I will be working on a v2.

I like the official. It's simple.

V2 of my box is up.
I adressed most of what Aggressivetouch reccomended.
1. Front renders now look more like water color rather than oil paint.
2. Eased up on the watercolor effect for the logo and removed effects to the template.
3. Made all the "pencil" lines on renders lighter.
4. Changed Tagline and back font.
5. Made screenshots more visible.

Im am currently making a different layout for the front of the box and will possibly be used in v3.
