This is my first Halo box. I wanted to try something a bit different from the norm, something that would say Halo but in my own way.
The plasma image came from a Samsung image from their website.
The DVD template was derived from M_G's thread link.
The XBox 360 banner and some technical stuff are derived from another person's template (I need to find who it is so I can properly credit that person).
The front image is made from some artwork I was working on, plus some other pieces parts I found. The Spartans came from an image on the Bungie site.
The Spartan is upscaled and modified from a screenshot of a 3D render. The background is derived from blending a few images together. The textbox and screenshot borders were made by me.
I'd like to give a special thanks to everyone who gave me feedback in my WIP thread. Your support and words were invaluable.
I fav'd this before I commented, I was looking at it in the WiP's and couldnt wait until you posted it! It's absolutely flawless. This may well be HoF, if not MW! awesome job on this :)
#45,what would you recommend? Why do you "hate" the presentation? Your questioning the use of an HDTV leads me to wonder what it is you are getting at.
#48, I don't get how TV is weird since a 360 is usually played on a...(drumroll)...TV. That is the point. I desaturated and overblued the background image so that it would compliment the boxart. What else should I have done, make a gradient background with a bottom reflection of the box? Yeah, that's never been done.
I gambled on a different style. It sits well with some and I'm sure others find it distasteful.
#49, Oh ok, next time I make a Games for Windows cover, I'll make sure to use a monitor screen, 'cause PC games are usually played on...(drumroll)...monitor.
At least you've picked a better TV. This one is ugly and it looks like that it has an outer glow around it.

Regarding the glow, yes, Samsung LED and Plasma TVs do have a red glow. I changed the red to a subdued green to offset the blue. I tried an orange-ish color but it clashed too much with the overall design. The green fit best. So yes, there was some thought behind the process.
I happen to have one these Samsung Plasmas and I think it looks great even when it is powered down.
And you never answered my question. What kind of presentation should I have gone with?

You like the presentation - great, be quiet, whereas I don't like it and I speak up.
But if you have a problem with something in somebody's box, give suggestions other than to get rid of it. I don't see anything wrong with trying something different for a presentation as long as it doesn't look horrid. My point is, this site is a site (I thought) where people give others advice when things could use improvement.

On the TV issue, I like it. While its not my favourite, it stands out and is different (in a good way) from the usual gradient and reflection, and having a unqiue presentation helps the author quickly be reckonized. I like to see it improved upon to make it your own custom presentation, and maybe adding to it will make it look great. (Say it could be resting on a table, with a faint sight of a room behind it, though making it stand out in this may be difficult)
#57, I'm tired of being a nice guy. People do not appreciate that and rather focus more on "douches" than good guys, if that makes any sense. If that doesn't, well too bad, I won't explain it any further.
And my suggestion, is to get rid of a TV. Is it that hard to understand what I mean. I know English is my secondary language, but you should be smart enough to understand what I mean.

#73, effort is the key to success. I keep seeing many members posting their boxes and they talk about about it took them hours to create their works. I spent several days working on this, not that that alone makes the box special in any way, but that is my process. I'd rather take my time, look at the work over and over, scrutinizing every pixel, color and placement. Either I'm crazy or just striving for perfection. I'd say I am probably closer to the former, but still working diligently on the latter.

Honestly, there are a lot of artists on this site that get little to no attention at all. I complained about this very thing concerning my one previous box, and wow did I come across as an idiot. AAAH! So many coments! I have to say somthing! I do agree this is a good box. However, I don't understand why everything is tinged with a blue hue? I understand you wanted to subdue the glow on the TV, but why not just modify that layer of the image instead of all of it? I think it compromises the coloration and would be alot better without the tint. Also, why is thier Mark IV armor on the back when none of the spartans in the game will be wearing MJOLNIR armor at all? Just a few things to think about so you don't get cockey. lol great job!
#92, the blue "tinge" is actually an blend of multiple colors across the box art itself. I tried numerous combinations of colors and this one worked the best in my eyes. I have a fondness for the color blue, as it works so well with literally every other color. The color overlay on the box is not the same effort I put onto the image on the plasma.
Why did I use that armor? Simple. The original render (3D render, not cutout) was of that armor. I liked it and wanted to use it, so I rescaled it way larger than the original, made a lineart, and painted my own new version. I never actually thought about whether or not it was the "correct" armor. After all the time I put into that Spartan (about 12-15 hours) I'm not changing it out now.
I went with the overall color scheme as an artistic choice first; box design came in a distant second.
I do appreciate the comments. Having spent, oh, about 100 hours on the box, I am rather burnt out on it and have moved to other priojects.
one small error. on the back the ersb ratings are supposed to go in alphabrtical order. it should be blood, mild language, violence. look at some cases and see what i mean.
