Big box (almost 19MB in PNG format).

Trying out this new Criterion-esque template, The Anthology. Designed to place more emphasis on the artist, giving him or her some recognition and freedom to create boxes that go against the grain and push the envelope of what a video game box should be. Sounds a bit pretentious, maybe, but I hope more artists will join in on this. Message me if you'd like the template.

I've actually had this one floating in my hard drive for a while, went back to finish it after I realized I didn't have much to do after I finished Zelda. The render of Metroid Prime was made by me. There are a few textures mixed with grunge brushes and a mesh grid, and the tech brushes on the back. In the background you can see the words MALFUNCTION scrolling up and down (or whatever).

Pretty happy with this box. Like always, comments highly encouraged. :)

You may or may not know that Metroid Prime is my favorite game, and is likely that things will stay that way unless Other M is some sort of miraculous gaming gift from God.

This...is simply incredible. Even as a Metroid fan I've never made a design for the original Prime, as I don't think I'd be able to do the masterpiece justice. You however, have done it, and have made one of my favorite case designs on this site. Job well done.

Ok, I have absolutely no idea what this game is about, but the cover is just to good,I had to fav it.
Seriously stop making such good boxes, how about being a good sport and making a few mediocre ones first :P?
Just kidding, you keep at it.
I assume you wrote the text on the anthology temp yourself?

Beautiful. This is the Metroid Prime box I always wanted to make but couldn't.

You're fast becoming one of the top artists on this site. Keep up the great work, 7sk!

#3, Thank you very much. Metroid Prime is among my favorite games, too, so I'm very happy to hear that you think I did it justice :)

#4, The text? Yeah, I did. I took what I'd been using for Essence boxes (which itself was a hybrid of the NeoGAF and Criterion templates) and moved things around, changed some things here and there, until I came up with what's up there.

#5, Thank you very much. I'll keep making boxes as long as people keep liking them :)

Thank you, guys :)

And really, if any of you want to get on The Anthology, just hit me up. Let's try to get some covers that really go outside the box.

Thanks, you guys. I just hope I won't disappoint you with any future boxes :)

Version 2: just a little retouching on the presentation, nothing major.

it's good, but the presentation is off. the background should ba somewhat brighter 80% black maybe) to make the package more visible.

#27, I don't mean any disrespect, but are you sure it's not just your brightness settings? It seems fine to me, here and on the psd file. The plastic box part is at least at a 70% gray compared to the black, and a cool gray at that.

#28, Maybe it is yours since your screen is not the standard. As for me: I am sitting on a computer within some design company and can check it on more than just two screens - with the same result. Besides, we are getting colormanagement all the time, so it can't be that. I know, my screen is no standard, but it's calibrated for icc profiles and that sure is standard if you are doing designs for printing/web/etc.

Anyways, even if I did change the settings, the package would not stand out more, because it is almost (!!! ALMOST !!!) blending right into the background. That's what I am talking about and making the background brighter (20% maybe) could help. Dark backgrounds for dark images sure are okay, but there's still a lot of room for improvement on this one. For example: link That's a way better presentation, even if it got some flaws on its own.

#30, That's way I said "almost blending into" and not "blending into". Dark on dark is good, but it can be suboptimal as well.

Case doesn't look like it's blending into the presentation at all, at least to me.

Just a few small updates:

- Hall of Fame Medal added to presentation
- presentation slightly tweaked to make the bottom of the box clearer
- updated username
- printable lightened a bit to make for clearer printouts

Thank you :)
